Shire statistics
Statistical and demographic information on the Shire is available from several sources.
Sutherland Shire Community Profile
The Sutherland Shire Community Profile provides statistics and results from the 2006, 2001, 1996 and 1991 Censuses of Population and Housing. It also contains additional information about the SEIFA index of disadvantage, migration and employment data, and Estimated Residential Population (ERP) figures for each year.
The profile is designed to inform community groups, council, investors, business, students and the general public. To achieve this, the profile is formatted to present the data in simple, clear tables and charts with concise factual commentary.
To view the Community Profile please use the link below - you will open a new window to a new site which is not part of council's web page, however the pages on the site you will be going to are approved by council. To return to this site, just close the new window.

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) conducts a census for the whole of Australia every five years. The last census was in 2006.
A community profile from the census is available for Sutherland Shire, listing selected information from the 2006 Census. These can be viewed on the ABS website.
More ABS statistics are available in the Reference Section of council's Central Library 30-36 Belmont Street, Sutherland. These are available both as printouts (which can be photocopied) or on CD-ROM which allows more interactive use - these are only available from computers at the library, and must be booked.

Eighty20 at Sutherland Shire Libraries
Eighty20 is an online service that allows you to combine demographics with business data eg. the number of children in an area as compared to the number of child care services. It is free to use and is available online including at all Sutherland Shire Libraries except Bundeena. For more information on this and other library services, see council's Central Library, or phone the library on 02 9710 0351.

Population Projections
There are 3 sets of population projections available for the Sutherland Shire LGA:
Local Government and Shires Association (LGSA) projections
The Local Government and Shires Association has produced a new demographic projections tool titled 'Resource for Ageing Population Planning' (RAPP). RAPP is a computer based tool, written in Microsoft Excel, which will allow councils to project how their populations will age over the next 12 years. Data is provided at the Local Government Area level but also allows for regional comparisons.
Key features include:
- Summary projections of key population and labour supply indicators over time
- Detailed projections by age and sex
- Table and graphing capabilities

Department of Planning (DOP) projections
For more than 30 years the NSW Department of Planning have produced population projections to assist the NSW Government. It is important to distinguish these population projections from the population targets produced by the NSW Government for particular regions or areas:
- Targets are just that - the aim the Government has set itself and the community, which is often coupled with deliberate policy actions to assist in meeting the target.
- In contrast, the population projections reported here are a view of future populations based on historical trends, current settlement patterns and demographic modelling.

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) projections
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has produced detailed population projections for Sutherland Shire Statistical Local Areas (SLA) from 2006 to 2022. These projections are by single year, age and sex.
